Should You Color Calibrate Your Computer Monitors For Editing Photos?
Should you color calibrate your computer monitors for editing photos? Short and quick answer, a resounding YES!
If you’ve been following me for a while now you probably know that I am partly colorblind which is a HUGE disadvantage for a photographer!
When I first started photography I was constantly really messing up the colors in my images.
Too much yellow, too much green, too much red, I couldn’t tell the difference. And to this day I can easily let my colors slip if I’m not careful.
But I found something that made a big difference and really helped me to get those colors accurate.
I started color calibrating my monitors. I discovered that on top of being partly colorblind if your editing monitor is not properly color calibrated it can look completely different on other devices.
How I Color Calibrate My Monitors
When I discovered this I looked up all kinds of different ways in which you could color calibrate your monitors. You could try to do it manually or even by downloading color profiles, none of which were very accurate at all and they were super confusing.
Then I found the X-Rite ColorMunki Display. This has been absolutely the most accurate and easy way to not only color calibrate your monitors but also your moble devices and even projectors.
The reason it is so easy and accurate is because it has a little device that monitors the ambiance in your room and also looks at the colors on your monitor and sends feedback to see if it is accurate or not.
Apparently, monitors can get their colors messed up over time (which I had no idea at the time), so I set mine to remind me to recalibrate once a month. I’m always amazed at how far off the colors on my monitor can get off in just one month. So image how far off yours might be if it’s never been color calibrated!
The X-Rite ColorMunki Display has become an essential device in my studio and I recommend it to anyone! I got mine from Amazon and I couldn’t be happier with it! Click here to see which one I got. This is an Amazon affiliate link so if you make a purchase through that link I will receive a commission. This doesn’t change the price for you at all, but I would greatly appreciate the support.
Conclusion
You will be amazed at how much of a difference this will make. Before I color calibrated my monitors my photos would look rather bland, which I thought was normal. I didn’t realize how much I was missing out.

Have a great day!
